The current situation
Switzerland is currently not a member of the YOUTH IN ACTION
program yet this will change quite soon: at the end of June
2009, the European Union and Switzerland have put initials under
a new bilateral agreement, wich will allow Switzerland to become
a full member of YOUTH IN ACTION. The agreement still has to
be aproved by the governement and the parliament. If everything
goes smoothly, we should be able to enter the program by the
first of January 2011.
To bridge this transition period, the Swiss government created
a fund, which can be used to finance young people living in
Switzerland to take part in an activity.
Possibilities to invite Swiss youngsters
Until the full membership is accomplished, Switzerland does
not count as program country and can therefore not appear in
an application to another national agency. However, it is possible
for them to join an activity: Swiss organisations or individual
youngsters can apply upon the Swiss Coordination Office Youth
for Europe, which will check the request and – if all
requirements are fulfilled – finance the extra cost caused
by these extra-participants.
Practically, this means:
• The hosting organisation has to send us a copy of the
contract with their national agency (proof that the project
was accepted)
• The Swiss coordination office pays the same amounts
per participant as granted in the contract and a share of the
lump sum items directly to the organisers
• The travelling cost are settled directly with the Swiss
participants
Important: The Swiss partners have to apply to our office in
advance, retro-active funding is not possible!
Possibility to organise an event
in Switzerland
It is as well possible for a Swiss organisation to carry out
an event in Switzerland and to invite partners from other countries.
To a few national exceptions our office applies the same rules
as all the other countries do. Due to the indirect participation,
purely bilateral events between one partner in Switzerland and
one partner abroad are however not possible.
